can i use Vietnamese butter roasted coffee in an espresso machine?
I have a new Delonghi coffee machine and I also have some vietnamese coffee which has a delicious hazelnut taste. I used to mix it with Italian coffee grounds and use it in my old espresso machine.
I guess I am concerned because the Vietnamese coffee I have is butter roasted. Don't want to gum anything up.
Thanks for answering.
Hi! jennimhk,
Yes, you can use Vietnamese butter roasted coffee in espresso coffee machine.
Roasting coffee beans will determine the taste. Espresso coffee bean is darker then normal roasted coffee bean.

How do I clean a dirty espresso machine?
I bought a Krups pump espresso machine from a garage sale. I have no idea how dirty it is or what condition it is in. The website doesn't have any useful instructions on the cleaning or maintenance of said machine. What should I use? Vinegar? Soap and Water?
thank you for any suggestions!
You can try to CLR cleaner. I use it all the time and it won't affect the taste of the coffee. Or you can try a 1/2 cup water and 1 tbsp. of lime juice. It works as a natural cleaner.
Or as many others would say, 1 part vinegar and 1 part water.

Espresso machine only works with ground unhooked?
I have an espresso machine that will only work if I unhook the green ground wire that's on the inside of the appliance. As soon as I hook the ground back up, it trips the GFCI outlet. It seems completely dry on the inside and looks clean and without corrosion. Any suggestions?
Thank you 'Steve & Katrina' for a well-thought-out explanation. Roadrunner 58 got a thumbs down for giving an incompetent and useless answer that was entirely unhelpful.
I'm not sure why the answer for the short-circuit answer got a thumbs-down because he's onto something as a very possible explanation for what is wrong with the appliance. You definitely have a problem with the expresso maker and it is "leaking" electrical current through the ground wire. A GFCI operates by monitoring electrical current going out on the hot wire vs. the current coming back on the neutral wire. If a difference is detected, electrical current is flowing somewhere that it's not supposed to, such as a ground, and then the GFCI trips out as a safety precaution. Your GFCI is not lying to you. There is a problem with that machine. If is new, take it back to the store and get a refund. If it's old, throw it away and buy a new one. Sorry. Good luck!!
Steve

What kind of coffee do you use in an espresso machine?
I'm getting an espresso machine off of Target.com and I'm not sure what kind of coffee to buy.. is it better to grind your own, buy the pods, or just use regular ground coffee?? Thanks!
Regular ground coffee will be too coarse a grind for an espresso. I would invest in a coffee bean grinder and some espresso or French roast beans. (A darker roast is necessary for good espresso.) Some places (IE--coffeehouses) will grind beans for you if you buy them at that coffeehouse. Some grocery stores also have coffeebean grinders you can use. I don't have any experience with the pods; I think that they're only good for machines made for pods.
Hope it helps!

Are you allowed to have an espresso machine in most college dorms?
I am going to be a freshman in college this fall and my parents got me the Nespresso Pixie espresso machine. On the housing website, espresso and coffee machines are not on the list of things not to bring, however it does say not to bring "food preparation machines". I wouldn't really consider an espresso machine a food preparation machine, but just to be safe, are espresso machines generally allowed in dorm rooms?
Wow, forbidding coffee makers would seem counterproductive for college students.
I would just assume that a coffee maker is not a food preparation machine (like a blender, food processor, toaster, etc.) and bring it. However, you might want to keep it out of sight in case the dorm monitors pay you a visit after you get settled (a day or two, I'd guess). Later on down the road, after you find out what they really mean by "food preparation machine", you can then decide if it's legal or if you have to keep it in a less visible place.
